Privacy Policy
Operant ("we," "us") provides positive-reinforcement behavior tools for dog owners and their caretakers. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have when you use our mobile apps and public website at operantdogtrainer.app.
Information we collect
Account information: When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive an account identifier and, if provided, your email address and display name.
Pet and journal data: Pet profiles (name, breed, birth month, personality survey), behavior logs and their notes, and the Insights the app generates from them (hypotheses, experiments, and progress).
Sitter links: When you create a sitter link, we store a protocol with your dog's name, breed, routine, handling notes, recent trigger notes, and any phone numbers you choose to add. Phone numbers, emails, and web links are removed from copied trigger notes before publishing.
Caretaker logs: Anyone with a live sitter link can submit quick logs (a trigger, a severity, and optional notes). These logs are added to the owner's journal.
Subscriptions: Purchases are handled by Apple or Google. Through our billing provider we receive your subscription status (active, expired, refunded), never your payment details.
Usage and diagnostics: App version, device type, crash reports, and a small set of predefined product events. Diagnostic data does not include your journal content, pet names, or sitter link ids.
App integrity: The app and sitter page may send device or browser attestation tokens (Apple DeviceCheck, Google Play Integrity, reCAPTCHA) so our servers can reject automated abuse.
Waitlist: If you join the launch waitlist on our website, we store your email address and when you signed up.
How we use information
To run the app: sync your journal across devices, generate Insights and sitter protocols, show shared sitter links, deliver caretaker logs, apply your subscription, and enforce fair-use limits on AI features.
Local reminders: Log reminders are scheduled on your device and are not sent through our servers.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. Service providers process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (sign-in, database, hosting, server functions, crash reporting, analytics), Google's Gemini API (AI processing), and RevenueCat (subscription status).
We may use aggregated, de-identified statistics to improve product quality.
AI features
Insights and sitter protocols are generated by sending your recent logs, notes, and pet profile to Google's Gemini API through our servers. Outputs are informational and are not veterinary, medical, or behavioral-professional advice. When logs suggest bite risk, Operant recommends a certified professional and limits its suggestions to management and distance.
AI training opt-in: Off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, some AI interactions may be stored for improving our models after names, contact details, and identifiers are removed. You can turn it off at any time. Data from the retired AI coach chat remains under this same setting.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and journal data while your account is active.
Sitter links stop working when they expire or you close them. The link and its caretaker logs are deleted automatically about 30 days after expiry, so you have time to import pending logs.
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, pets, journal, Insights, sitter links, and caretaker logs. An active subscription is managed by Apple or Google and is not cancelled automatically, so cancel it in your store settings. You can also request deletion at contact@operantdogtrainer.app. Backups and logs are purged on our providers' standard schedules.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by per-account security rules, and AI features run on our servers so no AI keys ship in the app. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Treat sitter links like a house key: share them only with people you trust.
Children
Operant is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
